And Now I Know!

Very funny and strange conversation with the kid yesterday.
Found out she's practicing to become a bum at 30.
Must say some of her habits i.e. room cleaning, shows she's getting PLENTY of practice, and won't be lacking in some areas!

Perplexed

First off I have to say, that it was strange signing into my blog and seeing my Mother's pic! I forgot we posted pics in memory of our Moms on Facebook. Wow, did it bring the tears.

Well, I discovered a strange phenomenon, or maybe it's just me over analyzing things again. But, I've noticed that when I'm not feeling well (which is all too frequently anymore) that if I'm fixing a meal I tend to grab the plastic type dinnerware (not disposable kind) instead of the china/ceramic and when I'm feeling better I grab the china/ceramic.
Now, if it was disposable it would make sense, but it's not. And since I'm the primary cook and bottle washer around here, I'm perplexed as to why I do it. We don't have a dish-washing machine so everything is hand washed.  Any ideas?
BTW, for anyone (anybody??) wondering it wasn't that easy. A couple of days later it was back to the same old same old. So much for the honeymoon. She's wanting to add pink streaks now. Thinking it might be worth it if for no other reason than a second honeymoon, LOL.

We Be Big: The Mostly True Story of How We Became Rick & Bubba (with the assistance of best-selling and award-winning author Don Keith).

Intro from:We Be Big: The Mostly True Story of How We Became Rick & Bubba (with the assistance of best-selling and award-winning author Don Keith).
Rick and Bubba are two HIGHLY unlikely radio broadcasters telling everyone about their lives, families, and friends and not cutting anyone any slack. One of their overriding themes is "if it happened, we tell it".  Both the good and the bad, and giving everyone a glimpse of life at its most real, even when the telling is painful.

I have been somewhat aware of Rick and Bubba since moving to Alabama so I knew a small part of their history but since I only listen to the radio when driving and I don't have television the book We Be Big fills in some of the blanks.
We Be Big, taken from their 800 number, is written with alternating chapters from first Rick and then Bubba's perspective.
The story starts with their younger days and their fascination with walkie-talkies and radios.
Rick discovered at a young age that he loved being in the limelight in any way that was available to him. He states it wasn't from lack of love however, just his own insatiable desire to be "on stage" and number one in all his endeavors.
Bill "Bubba" was more fascinated with the makings and mechanical aspect of things and continued in this field until he became co-DJ with Rick.
Throughout the book they both tell of how they were led through every experience of their lives to become who they are now.
Rick and Bubba don't cut any slack when telling how their faith in God and God's divine guidance brought them to where they are, many times in unknown and mysterious ways until they looked back at all that happened and could see His hand leading them.
They both have a deep and abiding faith in God and even after having experienced unbelievable loss, their faith carries them through each day.
They both unabashedly give God the thanks for bringing them to where they are.
The book isn't a religious book however. It's a fun, though realistic and sometimes gritty look at their lives from childhood to now.
Be prepared to take the time to read We Be Big at one sitting because once you start, the frequent laughter and occasional tears will keep you reading to the end.
I really enjoyed this book on many levels and would recommend it for anyone wanting to read a refreshingly honest and open book, especially if you are familiar with Rick and Bubba.
I was given this book by Blogging for Books from Thomas Nelson Publishers in exchange for a review.

Reflections

What a juxtaposition of feelings.

The past few weeks have been an extremely emotional time for me.

The theft and vandalism of our home, the tornadoes here in Alabama and now Osama having been caught.

I'm beginning to get over the house, I'll never get over the tornadoes and cry continually whenever I see the devastation - such horror is mind numbing and unfathomable, especially for those of us living in Alabama - and now the news of Osama's death.

I have mixed emotions on his death. I  firmly believe in the death penalty, so in one sense; the news is great. Yet on the heels of the tornadoes and horrifying numbers of deaths, I almost wish he'd been captured and tried and then perhaps gotten the death penalty. However, nothing I can imagine would begin to pass the right kind of punishment or consequence onto Osama's head.

Then, my cynical side will kick in and ask, "Could this be as some say? It happened earlier but was held until a more strategic time. Could it perhaps be propaganda?" I really don't want to believe that it is anything other than what it is.

Perhaps, it's just late and I can't think straight.

Whatever it is, I am glad Osama himself is no longer a threat, though I fear for other threats this may open up.

Plus, I'm thrilled that the military may now be recognized for the heroes they truly, truly are and possibly, the Lord willing, they will be treated as such also.

It Can't Be THIS Easy, Can It?

Our household's been struggling lately with typical teenage angst from a typical teenager that very loudly PROTESTS she is NOT a typical teenager. Along with this has also come the typical tantrums, disrespect, loud mouth, sarcastic, back talking, eye-rolling. . . Well, I'm sure you get the picture. And this one has her eye-rolling down so well, that it takes me a few seconds to realize it's not Melissa (with apologies to Melissa, but seriously kid I never thought I'd see anyone as good at or better than you!). I'm very thankful I'm not contending with bubble gum popping and smacking, too.

So, amongst all this she decides she wants her beautiful long hair cut and streaked in rainbow colors. OK, I hate to see it cut, but it is her hair and she does want to donate it to Locks of Love, so I don't really mind too much, sniff, sniff  : ^(

But the streaks, I had to think about for a minute or so. Then I decided there were worse things she could want or even do than have rainbow streaks in her hair.

Off to the hairdressers we go.

15 inches off and bright purple highlights later we head home.

I think I must have brought the wrong child home!

The tantrums, etc. have virtually disappeared and in there place is a young lady that doesn't have to be reminded to watch her tongue, say please and/or thank you, that sympathizes with me over my arthritis instead of fussing and lecturing me about what can help it, and knows how to smile. Faint-you can pick me up off the floor anytime now.

Can it really be this easy? We went Thursday and the new kid is still here.

She's wanting pink highlights now, too. Hmm, maybe this time I'll bring home one that's pleasant AND does her chores!

Both Worse and Not As Bad

I finally got up the nerve to go to the other house.

I'll post pics when I can get them linked.
